Troubleshoot WhatsApp connection errors
When you connect a phone number to WhatsApp Business API, most errors come from Meta rather than from SendPulse. Meta reports them as codes that are hard to interpret on sight.
Let's talk about errors that appear during connection, why a verification code may not arrive, and what to send to support if nothing helps.
Find your error during connection
Errors can appear in the Meta signup window or in SendPulse after the wizard is closed. Find your error message in the table below:
| Error | Cause | What to do |
#2655122 or #2655093 — the phone number or WhatsApp Business account already belongs to a partner |
Another provider still holds the number, or an earlier connection of your own does. | Delete the phone number in WhatsApp Manager. If the number uses Coexistence, disconnect it from the partner in the WhatsApp Business app. If the number is still registered with a previous provider, only that provider can release it. |
(#133005) Two step verification PIN Mismatch |
The phone number has two-step verification enabled, usually set up by a previous provider. |
Turn two-step verification off in WhatsApp Manager, then try again. Read more: Prepare your phone number before connecting |
Please ensure two-factor authentication is disabled |
The phone number has two-step verification enabled. | Turn off two-step verification in WhatsApp Manager and confirm the change using the link in the email from Meta. |
| The signup dialog greys out and shows no error. | Meta shows its own dialog here. Your business portfolio may have reached its cap on registered phone numbers, which starts at two for a new portfolio. |
Verify your business in Meta to raise the cap to 20. |
| Meta rejects the verification code, and the wizard is closed without creating a chatbot. | You ran the wizard in a mobile browser. Safari for iOS accounts for most of these reports. | Run the connection wizard in a desktop browser. |
| Meta refuses to migrate a phone number that starts with +1 555. | These are test business phone numbers that Meta issues, and Meta doesn't allow you to port them. | Connect the phone number as a new one, never as a migration. |
| Meta doesn't accept the phone number at all. | Meta doesn't support phone numbers from your country. | Use a phone number from a supported country. |
The status Meta shows in its interface may differ from the status its API returns. A green status in WhatsApp Manager doesn't always mean the phone number can send messages.

Find out why the verification code didn't arrive
When the wizard asks for a code that never arrives, one of the issues described below is the likely cause.
Please note, that Meta sends the confirmation code, not SendPulse. SendPulse cannot resend the code or check whether Meta delivered it, so support cannot speed this up. Every cause below comes from Meta's own requirements for a business phone number.

The phone number is in use on WhatsApp
Meta can't register a number that's already linked to a WhatsApp account. Delete your account in the WhatsApp app first. Uninstalling the app doesn't delete the account.
To delete your account, open the WhatsApp app. Go to Settings > Account and click Delete My Account. Enter your phone number in international format and click Delete my account.
When you delete an account, you permanently lose the chat history on that number. Before you do this, see if Coexistence works for your phone number. This way, you can connect the phone number from the WhatsApp Business app and keep your account.
To confirm that the phone number is no longer tied to an existing account, open https://wa.me/11111111111 in a browser, where 11111111111 is your phone number in international format, and click Start chatting. If the phone number is ready to connect, you see the Phone number shared via URL is invalid error.
Sometimes WhatsApp doesn't show an error. To double-check, send a message to the number from another phone. If you see one tick (Sent) or two ticks (Delivered), the number is still linked to a WhatsApp account.
If the phone number isn't linked to an account and you still don't get the code, see if it can receive SMS or calls from abroad. Phone numbers from office PBX systems and virtual numbers often block international messages and calls.
Another provider holds the phone number
Another provider already connected the phone number to WhatsApp Business API. In this case, migrate it instead of registering it again.

The phone number cannot receive the code
To verify a new phone number, Meta sends a one-time code. Make sure you can access the phone number during setup and that it meets all these requirements:
- It can receive SMS or voice calls.
- It accepts international calls and SMS.
- Any automated voice menu (IVR) on the phone number connects the call to a person.
Phone numbers receive both code types reliably. If you use a landline, VoIP, toll-free, or premium-rate phone number, select the voice call option.
PBX and virtual phone numbers often block international calls and SMS. You won't see any error that points to this issue.

Recognize the errors SendPulse can't resolve
Meta handles some issues entirely on its own side, and no action in SendPulse changes them. This covers business verification, restrictions and bans on your account, and a phone number that a previous provider hasn't released.
As your provider, SendPulse re-runs connection calls and refreshes permissions on a WhatsApp Business account it has access to. SendPulse does not verify your business, lift a restriction, or act on an account where it isn't the partner.
Contact support with the right details
If your error isn't listed in this article, contact SendPulse's support team and include the following:
- A screen recording of the connection process from the first click to the error.
- Your SendPulse account ID, not the email address of the account.
- The phone number in international format.
- Your Meta Business Portfolio ID.
- Your WhatsApp Business account ID.
- A screenshot of the phone number's status in WhatsApp Manager.
Share your account ID instead of your email address. It helps our support team find your account faster.
