Available with the Pro plan and above, as well as during the 7-day free trial

WhatsApp templates simplify customer communication through premade messages, such as order confirmations, event reminders, or answers to frequently asked questions. You can add these templates to your automated flows.

In this article, we will talk about how to use WhatsApp templates in Automation.

Customize chatbot templates

Go to the Chatbots section, and select your WhatsApp chatbot. Go to the Templates tab, and click Add template to create a new template.

Enter a template name and text, add a button, and select a language and a category. Submit your template for moderation, and wait for approval.

Configure template sending in Automation

Go to the Automation section, click Create automation. In the flow builder, select a launch trigger, and start adding elements to your flow.

Add the Messenger element

Drag the Messenger element to the workspace, choose a WhatsApp chatbot, and select Template. In the Message template section, select an existing template.

If your template is deleted in the Chatbot section, it will be sent anyway because it is not deleted in WhatsApp.

Add files

You can add an image no larger than 5 MB, a file no larger than 20 MB, or a video no larger than 16 MB. Click Select a file, and upload it from your device.

Allowed image formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, SVG, and WEBP.

Allowed file formats: ZIP, DAT, PDF, GIF, DOC, and VND.OPENXMLFORMATS-OFFICEDOCUMENT.

Allowed video format: MP3.

When creating a template, make sure you leave a section for your future file.

Add variables to your template

In the template text field, replace the numbers with a variable that is added to your flow start element along with its contact. This allows you to send a personalized message to every user.

Depending on your flow start element, you can select variables from a mailing list, CRM fields, or event body.

If you don't specify a variable or use an empty or deleted variable, it will appear as a blank space.

Customize buttons

You can also add buttons of the following types when creating a template:

Link

Your button will open a web page.

Variables are not applicable.

Phone number

Your button will dial the number listed in your template.

Flow

Your button will start your chatbot flow.

You can select a flow from the list in the automated flow builder.

Launch your flow

Once you finish with the settings, click Save and launch in the upper right corner.

Users will receive your message as soon as the conditions of the Message element start are met.
